Chronic kidney disease ckd is the presence of kidney damage or a decreased level of kidney function for a period of three months or more. A gfr number of 60 or higher is still considered to be within the normal range. In these stages kidney disease can be caught before it has done any significant damage. Because kidneys do a good job even when they re not functioning at 100 percent most people will not know they have stage 2 ckd.
